Rain turns to Snow
Monday was a wet day on the mountain with the isotherm ranging from 1200m to 1800m during the day. Combined with the low level cloud, rain and sleet made skiing on the lower areas of the resort a little unpleasant whilst the higher slopes were difficult to ski due to poor visibility.
Fortunately, the isotherm dropped dramatically overnight and the snow just kept on dumping down. Tuesday was transformed into a fantastic poweder day! As a conservative estimate, I’d say the depth of new snow was upwards of 40cm on the upper slopes.
Coverage on the whole of Morzine and the Portes du Soleil was excellent. Pistes presented some problems for those not used to skiing on powder as too much snow had fallen on Monday evening after the piste bashers had gone home for the night.
Morzine Snow Report – Avoriaz – Les Linderets
Today, the snow had stopped falling except for the odd flurry and a blanket of cloud remained with some unusually high winds. The high winds and masses of snow during the night were probably the main reasons that much of the Arare, Fornet and Mossette lifts remained closed for the early part of the day. The best places to ski in Morzine today had to be Les Linderets. The Burton Stash and the tree runs surrounding it are awesome on an overcast day where flat light presents difficulties elsewhere.
Pistes were nice and quiet today so the off-piste areas should be safe … for a short while.
